Waiting...

Have you ever thought about changing the world?

I mean, really thought about

what it would take,

what it would look like,

how you would go about it?

Where would you start?  Here in your hometown?  In Africa or Asia?  Would you start with orphans or would you tackle world peace?  Are you passionate about stopping the spread of AIDS or helping build literacy in the backyards of our planet?

How long did you think about it?  Did you stop there? 

Crazy, you say.  I can’t change the world.  There’s so much wrong with it.  I’m just one person.  It would take a million “me’s” to make a difference.

Hmm.  You’re right.  By yourself, you can’t do much.  Neither can I.  But what if,

just what if…….

We all worked together.

If we all decided that enough is enough.  Enough poverty.  Enough little children going to bed hungry or alone, or both.  Enough unnecessary death and illness and illiteracy and hunger and joblessness.  Too many dying for lack of something as simple as a mosquito net or a glass of clean water.  Too many living lives of hopelessness for lack of a basic education or the funds to start their own business.

It’s possible to change the way things are.  But first you must do something. 

It’s simple really. 

But it can be hard to do.

You must commit to compassion.

Commit to caring for others when there’s nothing in it for you.

Commit to understanding your gifts and abilities, so that you can best invest yourself in the very real, deep needs of our world.

Commit to that gut-level sense that you were born for more than you are living out.

 

When you get that far, the world will be waiting.

So will we.
